Helping Communities and Landowners Take Action for a Healthier Watershed 🌿

South Nation Conservation (SNC) works with landowners, municipalities, community groups, and environmental partners to protect and restore the natural resources that sustain our region — including clean water, healthy forests, productive farmland, and thriving wildlife habitat.

Through a variety of cost-share and incentive-based grant programs, SNC helps make local stewardship projects more affordable and accessible, supporting on-the-ground improvements that deliver lasting environmental benefits across our watershed.

Support for Private Land Stewardship

Many of the most important environmental actions happen on private land. SNC provides technical guidance, site visits, and financial assistance to help property owners implement projects such as:

  • Tree planting and forest restoration

  • Woodlot management and recovery support

  • Erosion control and shoreline buffers

  • Well, septic, and runoff improvements

  • Farm stewardship and soil health projects

Over the last 30 years, SNC has provided 3.2 million dollars in funding for over 880 Clean Water Projects and has helped plant over 4 million trees throughout the region that improve water quality and strengthen rural landscapes.

Funding for Community Projects and Events

SNC also supports community-led initiatives that connect people to nature and inspire environmental action.

Community Environmental Grants are available to help local organizations and municipalities deliver projects such as:

  • Environmental education events

  • Tree planting and habitat restoration activities

  • Stewardship workshops and community clean-ups

  • Local recreation and watershed engagement initiatives

Non-profit organizations and municipalities may be eligible for grants of up to $500 to help bring these efforts to life.

Working Together Through Partnerships

SNC’s grant and stewardship programs are made possible through strong partnerships with municipalities, conservation organizations, agricultural groups, and funding agencies. By working together, we are able to deliver practical, locally driven solutions that support:

  • Cleaner rivers and streams

  • Stronger climate resilience

  • Healthier forests and wetlands

  • Sustainable land and farm practices

  • Engaged and empowered communities
